In the Loop – Youth Work Unit, Yorkshire & the Humber
The Youth Work Unit for the Yorkshire and the Humber have launched another newsletter this week. It’s full of all the news and information you need for the youth work sector. Be sure to check it out online.
This is an exciting role in which you will provide the administration function to the EYPCF Steering Group. This will include all aspects of administration and communication, the dissemination of information about SEND services in the East Riding to parents and carers. The development of key relationships is key to the role, the post holder will be expected to maintain key relationships, which include: parents and cares of children with SEND living in the East Riding of Yorkshire, the Local Authority, Health, Social Care and the Voluntary Sector. The Administrator will need to work effectively with the EYPCF Trustees, EYPCF Steering Group, the EYPCF Partnership Co-ordinator and ERVAS.

East Riding Young Persons’ Engagement Group (YPEG) – The Young Persons’ Engagement Group (YPEG) aims to enable young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) to have a voice, shape and influence service delivery in the area and support young people to be champions of change in their society.
This group is for ages 14-25 with young people with special needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and who live in Bridlington or the surrounding area (within East Yorkshire).
We would welcome young people to join us for our first virtual YPEG session to find out how you can get involved in YPEG through some fun ice breakers and getting to know you activities!

Let’s Talk – Webinars
Gerry Wareham, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Yorkshire and Humberside would like to invite members of our Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities to have a conversation about race and racism by attending one of three online webinar sessions scheduled on 8th, 9th, and 10th September.
We would like to focus the sessions on how recent events have impacted you, your family and your community in terms of how you view the Criminal Justice System and more specifically the Crown Prosecution Service. How are we doing? Are we are getting it right? And if not, what more we can do? We genuinely want to hear your views, including any concerns and respond to them as best we can. We will also ensure that your insights feed into our on-going Covid-19 recovery planning and build our understanding of where we need to focus our attention to increase public confidence.
We do not want this to be an isolated conversation; we expect follow-up conversations to ensure we continue to listen.
The sessions will be online and hosted via Microsoft Teams.

Webinar: Introduction to the code
The Fundraising Regulator maintains and upholds the Code of Fundraising Practice which sets out the responsibilities that apply to fundraising carried out by charitable institutions and third-party fundraisers in the UK.
They have put together a pre-recorded webinar which helps you understand what the code is, who it applies to, what the code covers and how to use the code, both online and offline.
This webinar may be especially helpful for those new to fundraising, as an introduction to the fundraising standards. Charities are welcome to use this material as part of their induction and training.
Collapse in charity provision looms at moment of greatest need
The Charity Finance Group has issued a depressing but all too familiar report which states that 58% of charities are to cut back services costing the sector 60,000 jobs.
The survey of 455 charities found that 19% have already made redundancies, and that 23% plan to make further cutbacks once the government’s furlough scheme comes to an end. That number jumps to 44% among the UK’s largest charities. Remarkably, nearly one-in-ten (8%) large charities anticipate reducing their headcount by 25-50%.
Government admits there has been no formal review into emergency small charity funding
The Government has been accused of breaking a promise over emergency coronavirus funding for small charities, reports Civil Society, after it emerged that no “standalone review” has been conducted into the scheme.
In April this year, DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) stated they would “review early learnings” from the £200m Coronavirus Community Support Fund in order to “inform decisions about how to distribute the remaining cash”.
Crisis and Tesco Mobile partner to help homeless get online in two-year partnership
Tesco Mobile and Crisis have announced a two-year partnership with the aim of tackling digital exclusion issues among people suffering from homelessness.
Tesco Mobile is donating £700,000 worth of phones, devices and connectivity during the first year of the partnership.
A recent Crisis study of homeless charities and organisations showed that over three-quarters (76%) had seen an increase in the number of people experiencing digital exclusion and requiring additional support. Three-quarters (75%) also said lack of digital technology or internet was a challenge affecting their ability to support people experiencing homelessness.

The government has published updated coronavirus volunteering guidance, which reflects the latest changes on local lockdowns, travel, face coverings, shielding, self-isolation and working safely.

Useful guidance for employers
As the coronavirus outbreak continues, we’re working hard to support employers with some exciting new initiatives. We’ve created guidance that you can share with your members or networks to make sure they don’t miss out.
Incentive payments for employers
We’re introducing incentive payments for hiring a new apprentice. Employers who hire new apprentices between 1 August 2020 and 31 January 2021 could get:
£2,000 for apprentices aged 16 to 24
£1,500 for apprentices aged 25 and over
They can apply from 1 September 2020, and spend the payment on anything they need to support their organisation. This is in addition to the £1,000 payment we already give to help employers meet the needs of some groups of apprentices in the workplace.
Hire experienced, work-ready apprentices now
When taking on apprentices, we’re encouraging employers to consider hiring apprentices who have been made redundant during the pandemic. These apprentices already have valuable skills and experience, so they’ll make an impact straight away – and they qualify for the incentive payments for hiring a new apprentice too.

New Netflix phishing scam uncovered
Security analysts have uncovered a dangerous and highly convincing new Netflix phishing scam, capable of evading traditional email security software.
Identified by researchers at Armorblox, the phishing email masquerades as a billing error alert, pressing the victim to update their payment details within 24 hours or have their Netflix subscription voided. more
PayPal account holders warned about phishing
The warning comes after Action Fraud received over 1,000 reports within 24 hours on 20th July 2020 about emails claiming to be from PayPal. The emails state the recipient’s account has been “limited” as a result of a policy violation. more
Compromised Facebook accounts used
to lure victims into PayPal scam
There has been a surge of reports where the recipient has received messages through Facebook Messenger from friends/family requesting to use their Pay Pal account to receive funds from the sale of items on EBay. Overall, between 1st June 2020 and 31st July 2020 a total of 95 reports have been made which specifically mention that the item sold was a camera.
Messages are sent by fraudsters purporting to be friends/family stating that they have sold a camera on eBay but that they are unable to process the payment as they either do not have a Pay Pal account or because their Pay Pal account is not working. The request is that the message recipient receives the funds into their own Pay Pal account, then, after transferring it into their own bank account, they forward it onto an account controlled by the fraudster.
If the victim agrees the payment is transferred into their Pay Pal account but, after the money is transferred out, the initial transaction is reversed leaving the account in negative balance.
Multiple reports have also been received from victims stating that their Facebook Messenger accounts have been hacked and that these fraudulent messages have been sent to all their contacts on their behalf.
The total reported loss for these reports is £44,035.
What you need to do Verify financial requests: Be wary of unusual messages asking for assistance with financial transactions. Even if the message appears to be from someone you know and trust, you should check it’s really them that sent the message by calling them or speaking with them in person.
Unusual financial requests: Never respond to any requests to send money, or have money transferred through your account, by someone you don’t know and trust.
Secure your accounts: You can protect your important online accounts by using a strong separate password and, where available, turn on two- factor authentication (2FA).
If you have made a payment: Inform your bank, or payment service provider, such as PayPal, as soon as possible. They can help you prevent any further losses. You should also monitor your bank statements
regularly for any unusual activity.

Seventy-one percent of media and marketing executives think virtual gatherings and conferences will be the only option for businesses through 2020, according to a new report by The 614 Group.
Now this is a marketing survey done for the private sector but it is interesting to see what people’s views are about the future of virtual vs physical meetings and how that may impact on our sector too.

NHS Bereavement Service
As NHS business resumes and our staff are needed to return to their normal roles we have made the decision that the bereavement support service, Sudden, will take over the current NHS bereavement Helpline service and develop it further as there is a crucial need for the helpline to remain open.
Sudden is a not-for-profit service hosted by the support charity, Brake, who we have identified as working in the same early bereavement support area as the NHS Helpline was and who have received funding support from the Department of Health and Social Care.
The helpline number will remain the same (0800 2600 400) but Sudden’s service will take and have responsibility for all calls to the number going forward, offering up to ten weeks of phone-based support from day one. Click here to find information on how refer into the Sudden service.
Appeal for people with lived experience of self-harm
In partnership with Humber, Coast and Vale Health and Care Partnership, we are looking for individuals with experience of self-harm, or who self-harm, to help us to shape future support services. Free online sessions launched to raise cancer awareness and help save lives through early diagnosis
Humber, Coast and Vale Cancer Alliance has launched free online Cancer Champion sessions to help raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer and encourage early detection within local communities.
Individuals across Hull, York, East Riding of Yorkshire, Scarborough and Ryedale can now register for free one hour Cancer Champion sessions, which teach people about the key facts, statistics, symptoms and screenings for a number of cancers.
The Cancer Champion Programme aims to save lives by promoting healthy lifestyle choices and encouraging early detection of cancer, when treatment could be simpler and more successful.
Effective Support for Children, Young People and Families In The East Riding of Yorkshire: Thresholds, Referrals & Consent
These sessions will introduce the updated Effective Support Model for Children and Young People including threshold of Intervention and need guidance and how to use it to help inform Safeguarding decision making.
The sessions will also outline the new consultation opportunities available to practitioners and the work of the Early Help Locality Hubs and the Child Safeguarding Hub. Issues around consent and information sharing will also be explored within the briefing.
The ERSCP Effective Support Model will be in operation from 1 September 2020 therefore please share this flyer with all practitioners within your agency and encourage participation.

The East Riding Crime Reduction Fund has been established by the East Riding Community Safety Partnership, with funding provided by the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner and aims to provide grants for projects that will provide sustainable solutions to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Projects must help to meet at least one of the three aims in the Police & Crime Commissioner’s Police and Crime plan:
To deliver increasingly self-sustaining and safe communities in the Humber area
To build public confidence in the agencies involved in creating safer communities
To provide services to victims and the vulnerable that meet their needs.
Size of grants: Grants are available of up to £20,000
When to apply?
Applications to this fund will be assessed on an ongoing basis subject to available funds. Decisions on awards in 2020/21 will be made in September 2020, December 2020 and March 2021.

2021 GSK Impact Awards
Charities are facing significant challenges as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, while continuing to provide vital services to keep people healthy and connected.
This year, more than ever, we are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2021 GSK IMPACT Awards. The awards are funded by GSK and managed in partnership with The King’s Fund. Winning organisations will receive core funding of up to £40,000, plus access to excellent training and development to support their leaders.
To be eligible to apply, organisations must be at least three years old, working in a health-related field in the UK, with income between £80,000 and £2.5 million. Up to 20 awards will be made, ranging from £3,000 to £40,000; the training and development is valued at a further £9,500. Organisations will also have a film made, receive help with press and publicity, and be given a set of promotional materials.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 14 September 2020.
Grants of up to £100,000 Available for Community Facilities
Registered charities, churches, parish councils, local authorities and CASC registered sports clubs can apply for grants of between £2,000 and £100,000 for the provision, maintenance or improvement of community facilities. This can include village halls and community centres, public play areas; publicly available multi use games areas, skate parks and BMX tracks; sport and recreation grounds including pavilions and clubhouses with full public access; churches – community spaces only; nature reserves; public gardens, parks, country parks and woodlands with at least dawn to dusk access; and Museums. The funding is being made available through the FCC Community Action Fund and is available to projects located within 10 miles of an eligible FCC Environment site.
The closing date for applications at 5pm on the 2nd September 2020.
