Understanding Kooth Workshop
Commissioned by East Riding CCG, Kooth.com is a free, online counselling and emotional wellbeing platform which is available to young people aged 11– 25 years across East Riding.

The workshop will take place on Thursday 2 July from 1pm.
Cyber Aware – keeping young people safe online workshop
On Wednesday 17 June, Devan Witter and PC Alistair Kennedy delivered another workshop, this time raising awareness of potential harmful situations and discussing how to keep our young people safe online.

Hull & East Riding: “Keeping People Connected” project
This is a free service for those aged 18+ who live in Hull, the East Riding, and North Lincolnshire.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Hull City Council, North Lincolnshire Council local authorities and Inclusion North are co-ordinating an urgent response, in relation to Covid-19, to support neurodivergent people (i.e., those with Autism, and/or ADHD, and/or a Learning Disability) who do not usually access local services or support, for whatever reason, and who are vulnerable in terms of their disability, learning or mental health needs.
Some people who have a Learning Disability, and/or Autism, and/or ADHD, may be having difficulty in dealing with the adjustments and compromises demanded by the current health emergency. The new “Keeping People Connected” project aims to help this group of people by connecting with them during this current situation; to provide information, up-to-date guidance, reassurance and practical support. Choices & Rights Disability Coalition, alongside colleagues at Autism Plus, Matthew’s Hub, Cloverfield Advocacy and Healthwatch North Lincolnshire, are participating in this new, free service for those aged 18+ who live in Hull, the East Riding, and North Lincolnshire.
Free bespoke cycle training on offer to East Riding residents
During the lockdown, many residents have been walking and cycling as part of their daily exercise.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is keen for people to continue as the restrictions are eased and its Road Safety Team is offering safe, free personal cycle training to support residents in this transition.
The sessions will help to give adults and children aged 11 and over the opportunity to gain the skills and confidence to cycle more regularly as workplaces, shops and schools begin to reopen.
The council’s Road Safety Team would like to see walking and cycling become a ‘new normal’ for people who only have short, daily journeys.
In response to the COVID-19 crisis, at Re-engage (formerly Contact the Elderly) we have suspended our regular social gatherings and have created a new service for older people called call companions.
The guests in our existing groups are receiving calls from volunteers and we now have volunteer capacity to reach more older people and want call companions to be a permanent addition to our work.
Our call companion’s idea is very simple: a volunteer call companion calls the same older person between two and four times a month at a mutually agreed time for an informal chat. Calls will last for around 30 minutes. Just like our social gatherings, the call companions programme is aimed at people who are:
75 or older
living alone or in sheltered housing with little or no contact with family or friends
struggle to leave their house in normal times
In addition, for call companions we ask that the older people have sufficiently good hearing to take on regular phone conversations.
At the time the older person is referred, we’ll ask a general question about the older person’s interests or hobbies to make sure we match them with a volunteer and to help spark conversation.
Our volunteers all receive training, which includes safeguarding, signposting to other services, and how to engage in difficult conversations. Call companions are supported by call coordinators who monitor the success of the partnership for both the older person and volunteer. If an older person takes part and subsequently decides it is not for them, there is an easy way for them to leave.
If you know anyone who would benefit from call companions, please refer them using our simple online form. Don’t forget to get the older person’s consent first. You can find the form on our website at Refer an older person to CC Once we receive the application, we will start the process of matching the older person with a volunteer and you will hear back from us shortly.
Call companions offers a crucial link to older people who are at risk of falling further into social isolation as a result of quarantine measures. We look forward to receiving referrals from you.
Puppets mean prizes! Beverley Puppet Festival launches online competition
Beverley Puppet Festival is now halfway through its ground-breaking online programme of puppetry activity videos for all ages. Photos and videos have been flooding in from audience members young and old, who want to share the puppets they have made.
Now the Festival has launched a competition for all those creative puppetry fans out there. Prizes for both the adult and a kids/family categories are two passes for the next live festival which will be held in Beverley in 2022. There are additional prizes of branded Festival tote bags and camping cups for the best submission for each of the 25 workshop activities.
To take part, all you need to do is submit pictures or videos (of up to 2 minutes) of your creations based on any of the festival activity videos.
Don’t worry if you missed any. All the subtitled activity videos will remain available online at the website https://www.beverleypuppetfestival.com and you can see the puppets and puppetry performances that have already been submitted there as well.
The competition will remain open until Sunday 19 July, a week after the last video activity is posted on the website. The winners will be announced on the following Saturday 25 July.
So get online, get crafting, photographing and filming, and send in your creations for a chance to be part of this year’s exciting activities and be the lucky winner of your free pass to the Beverley Puppet Festival, back live and in person in 2022.

Tesco Bags of Help has responded to the current COVID-19 crisis by setting up a new fund to support local communities.The programme will provide a single payment award of £500 to organisations who are supporting vulnerable groups, as part of their emergency response in supporting local communities.
Coronavirus-Related Scams – How To Protect Yourself
Criminals are exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic to try and get their hands on your money and personal information. To date, Action Fraud has received reports from 2,378 victims of Coronavirus-related scams, with the total losses reaching over £7 million.
How you can protect yourself from Coronavirus-related scams:
There are some simple steps you can take that will protect you from the most common Coronavirus-related scams. Here’s what need to do:
1 – Watch out for scam messages
Your bank, or other official organisations, won’t ask you to share personal information over email or text. If you receive an email you’re not quite sure about, forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS): firstname.lastname@example.org
2 – Shopping online
If you’re making a purchase from a company or person you don’t know and trust, carry out some research first, for example, by checking to see if others have used the site and what their experience was. If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, use a credit card if you have one, other payment providers may not provide the same protection.
3 – Unsolicited calls and browser pop-ups offering tech support
Never install any software, or grant remote access to your computer, as a result of a cold call. Remember, legitimate organisations would never contact you out of the blue to ask for financial details such as your PIN or full banking password.
NHS Test and Trace scams:
The NHS Test and Trace service plays an important role in the fight against coronavirus and it’s vital the public have confidence and trust in the service. However, we understand the concerns people have about the opportunity for criminals to commit scams.
What you need to know:
Contact tracers will only call you from the number 0300 013 5000. Anyone who does not wish to talk over the phone can request the NHS Test and Trace service to send an email or text instead, inviting them to log into the web-based service.
All text or emails sent by NHS Test and Trace will ask people to sign into the contact tracing website and will provide you with a unique reference number. We would advise people to type the web address https://contact-tracing.phe.gov.uk directly into their browser, followed by the unique reference number given to you, rather than clicking on any link provided in the message.
The NHS Test and Trace service will never:
ask you to dial a premium rate number to speak to them (for example, those starting 09 or 087)
ask you to make any form of payment or purchase a product or any kind
ask for any details about your bank account
ask for your social media identities or login details, or those of your contacts
ask you for any passwords or PINs, or ask you to set up any passwords or PINs over the phone
ask you to download any software to your PC or ask you to hand over control of your PC, smartphone or tablet to anyone else
ask you to access any website that does not belong to the government or NHS
If you think you have been a victim of fraud, please report it to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040. If you live in Scotland, please report directly to Police Scotland by calling 101.

Hackers targeting self-employed with HMRC phishing scam
Cyber criminals have launched a new phishing scam designed to steal personal and financial details of millions of self-employed workers using the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) during the Covid-19 outbreak.
The scam, uncovered by litigation specialists Griffin Law, begins with a text message sent to self-employed workers offering a tax rebate purporting to be from HMRC. more
Council launch campaign to help with COVID-19 isolation drinking
It’s easy to drink more than usual whilst social distancing. You may be feeling more anxious or worried than normal and drinking more to help with this. Charity shares Q&A to let local people know about their 24/7 mental health support line
Local mental health charity Hull and East Yorkshire Mind has shared a series of questions and answers to let local people know about the kind of things they can get in touch about. The Q&A comes shortly after the charity recently announced that they are now working 24/7 to support local people with their mental health.
The 24 hour information line, which is funded by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, is for anyone in the local area that wants to talk about how they are feeling, what is happening in their life right now or just generally struggling with their mental health. Additionally, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind encourage calls from people who are worried about family or friends who may be struggling with their mental health.
The charity recognises that people in the local area may not want to get in touch with the information line due to the stigma attached to mental health, or confusion about what they can help with. Tackling Inequalities Fund-COVID-19 Funding Support
Sport England have identified from their physical activity attitudes and behaviours survey during COVID-19 the widening gaps in the activity levels across the key priority audiences. This clearly shows that some of the target audiences are suffering more from the impact of the disease than is the case with the wider population. These groups are people from Lower Socio-Economic Groups, Black, Asian Minority Ethnic Communities, Disabled People and People with Long-Term Health Conditions.
Sport England want to deepen and further widen the reach of their funding to the under-represented audiences listed above. Sport England are doing that through the introduction of a funding programme called the ‘Tackling inequalities through awards to sector partners’ to help reduce the negative impact of Covid-19 and tackle the widening of the inequalities in sport and physical activity.
Active Humber has received £80,000 from Sport England Tackling Inequalities fund to distribute between June and October 2020. (nb. The grant application process is planned to be minimal / funding will range from £50 to max £10,000)
What is the intended impact of this fund?
To minimise the impact of COVID-19 on activity levels in under-represented groups, ensuring that the physical activity participation inequality gap does not widen during this period in targeted communities.
Enable community groups working with target audiences to continue to exist and retain the resources and capability to recover at the appropriate time.
Provide funding for community groups working with Sport England target audiences to remain connected with their participants and keeping them active in the COVID-19 lockdown and early recovery stages.
Strengthen relationships between system partners and community bodies working with under-represented groups.
Use of Funding
Types of activity that might be funded could include:
Hardship through funding support.
Funding for community groups to find new ways of keeping their target audience active in this period.
Offering advice and training support
Increasing resilience, capacity, and capability of delivery bodies
Ørsted’s East Coast Community Fund awards over £1.5 million to worthy causes
Over 120 local projects, community groups and charities have been awarded a share of over £1.5 million from the Ørsted East Coast Community Fund.
This comes as eleven deserving local organisations are celebrating the news that they have been awarded grants from the seventh round of Ørsted’s East Coast Community Fund.
The East Coast Community Fund is part of the community engagement programme for Ørsted’s Hornsea One and Race Bank offshore wind farms. Each year, until 2037, approximately £390,000 will be available from the main fund to support a wide range of community and environmental projects.
An additional £75,000 per year is ring-fenced for a skills fund, designed to support a range of educational and training initiatives.
The community groups will each receive a share of the windfall, which is available every six months through an open application process.
The Fund was launched by Ørsted in December 2016 and, across both the main fund and skills fund, has so far donated over £1.5 million to more than 120 projects. In total, over the twenty years, up to £9.3 million will be made available for community and environmental projects in coastal areas of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and North Norfolk.
There are two application rounds each year for groups to apply to, and the next closing date is 29 July 2020.
