A double-bill of comedy will bring some autumn cheer to East Yorkshire with the next drama performance by the Market Weighton Community Players.

Outside the Box, by JPS Yates, is a one-act play satirizing office life where the office workers are nursery toys. Ragdoll is feeling unwanted but news comes from the fairy that there are to be cuts in the toy department – who will go?

That will be followed by a potted pantomime. In Forty Winks Beauty, written by Richard Tydeman, the star is awakened not by the prince, who is late, but by Charley Prince, a teddy boy. Luckily the day is saved, albeit unwittingly, by the wicked fairy Maud. It is a production written entirely in verse.

Director Noreen Thorp says: “These are delightful plays for a family audience and very different to the previous drama, Ghost Writer, from earlier this year. We read through Outside the Box in the summer and felt such satire reflected the British spirit. Forty Winks Beauty gives an alternative view of pantomime.”

The comedies will run for four performances from Thursday 7th to Saturday 9th November at Shiptonthorpe Village Hall, Station Road, Shiptonthorpe, with evening shows at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
