Domestic Abuse Awareness Training – Level 1

Aim & Learning Outcomes

The aim of this course is to raise participants’ knowledge and understanding of the nature and impact of domestic abuse.

By the end of the course the learner will:  

  1. Know the statutory definition of domestic abuse
  2. Explore the different types of abusive behaviours used by perpetrators of domestic abuse
  3. Understand the impact of domestic abuse on victims and survivors
  4. Know the prevalence of domestic abuse
  5. Recognise the myths relating to the causes of domestic abuse
  6. Explore how discrimination in society contributes to the experience and impact of domestic abuse
  7. Know the specialist support services and interventions available for survivors, children and perpetrators

Training format: 

This course takes the format of blended learning in three parts:

  1. Pre-course work (2 hours self-guided learning)
  2. Live, interactive training session via Microsoft Teams (3 hours, facilitator-led)
  3. Post-course reflection and evaluation (1 hour self-guided)

The training is approximately 6 hours in total and open to anyone working within the East Riding of Yorkshire (paid or unpaid).

All three elements must be completed to ‘pass’ the training and receive a CPD certificate.  The course leader will require evidence that the pre and post work has been completed before issuing a certificate.
